What can Josh Donaldson bring to the Yankees?

Veteran Josh Donaldson can still bring a lot to the New York Yankees, both defensively and in his MLB on-base quality.

Josh Donaldson is clearly not that 2015 MVP, however, his last two seasons have been of a passable level, where he has seeded the records for a Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) of .354, while the mark of 125 Runs Weighted Created Plus (wRC+).

The wOBA is a version of on base percentage that explains how a player got on base, rather than simply considering whether a player got on base.

In the cited span of MLB seasons between 2020 and 2021, the league average has had a .317 wOBA, say that Donaldson has a production of 37 points higher than average.

Is Josh Donaldson good on defense?

The fact that a player has never won a gold glove does not mean that he is bad defensively, but that there are others who are much better, but the previous one is still good.

Defending

Donaldson maintains about 25 points higher than the average Weighted Runs Created Plus, in addition to what has been a high-level defender as a third baseman in his career, which is backed by his 29 Runs Saved (DRS) for life.

Obviously, it’s not a Nolan Arenado, but it’s not bad. His metrics look a little better than Gio Urshela’s in his last two seasons as a New York Yankees hot corner defender.

Donaldson numbers

Donaldson is coming off a season where he batted .247 with 26 home runs, 72 RBIs, an 827 OPS and 113 hits.
