For the first time in history, Liverpool scored nine goals in a Premier League match.

The overwhelming Liverpool returned to the Premier League, belatedly but with determination, to thrash Bournemouth and seal their first victory in the competition that coincided with Roberto Firmino’s vindication.

It was a historic win. The Reds equaled the record held by Manchester United, who achieved it twice, against Ipswich in 1995 and Southampton in 2021, and Leicester against Southampton in 2019. For the first time in history, Liverpool scored nine goals in a Premier League match.

Although the success was choral, the duel was especially relevant for Firmino. The Brazilian had lost his prominence of yesteryear. The arrival last year of Colombian Luis Díaz and this summer of Uruguayan Darwin Núñez had made Firmino less relevant despite the departure of Senegalese Sadio Mane to Bayern.
