James Rodríguez returns to the call-up of the Colombian National Team

Reinaldo Rueda made known the list of summoned of the Colombia selection for their next two games of the qualifying round to Qatar 2022, against Brazil and Paraguay.

The great novelty of the call-up is the return of James Rodríguez, today a player for Al Rayyan from Qatar, who has not played with the National Team for almost a year. His last game was 6-1 against Ecuador, in November of last year.

James was on the list for the June games against Ecuador and Argentina and for the Copa América, but Rueda left him out as he was not physically ready. The ’10’ was five months without playing an official match and in that period he went from Everton to Al Rayyan.

Rueda will have several casualties due to injury: Stefan Medina, from Monterrey; Yerry Mina, from Everton; Carlos Cuesta, from Genk, and Mateus Uribe, from Porto, were left out of the list for these two games. Neither are, with respect to their previous call, Juan Fernando Quintero, Luis Sinisterra and Éder Álvarez Balanta.

Among the novelties, apart from the return of James, are the returns of Óscar Murillo, Yairo Moreno and Luis Fernando Muriel, absent due to injury in the triple day of October.

Rueda called five new faces: Andrés Mosquera Marmolejo, Medellín goalkeeper; Cristian Arango, attacker for Los Angeles FC; Yeimar Gómez, Seattle Sounders defender, Sebastián Gómez, Nacional midfielder, and Diego Valoyes, Talleres de Córdoba attacker. Víctor Cantillo, from Corinthians, also returns.

Colombia is fourth in the qualifying table, with 16 points. So these two games will be vital to avoid leaving the direct qualification zone for the World Cup.

The game against Brazil will be this November 11, on the road. Then, on the 16th, he received Paraguay in the Metropolitan.

The National Team will begin to meet next weekend directly on Brazilian soil, as soon as the local football date ends and those summoned from abroad finish their performance in their respective leagues.
