FIFA puts LaLiga in trouble

The FIFA has clearly lined up on the side of the Conmebol in the open conflict with various European leagues as a result of the calls for the South American qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022 to be held between September 2 and 10. The Premier and The league announced on Tuesday their support for clubs that refuse to give up their internationals to the South American teams.

The Premier welcomes the quarantine that the majority of players should observe upon their return to England for reasons of COVID and LaLiga, to the expansion due to “FIFA unilateral decision to increase by two days ”the international loan period for players.

The highest body of world football has positioned itself in favor of Conmebol, assuring it that “it will proceed to reiterate to the respective member associations and affected clubs the regulatory bases to which they are subjected, as well as will make them participate in the consequences of its possible breach ”.

With the Player Statute in hand, these consequences would go through the impossibility of the teams of to line up to their international players not assigned while the time in which they should be with their respective teams lasted, extending said period five days past the end regulatory.

LaLiga will summon the affected clubs

LaLiga plans to meet with all the clubs affected by this situation to study it thoroughly and give them their full support. The schedules of the matches of the last day of the South American qualifying phase would make it impossible for the players to arrive in a position to play the matches of the fourth day of the Spanish championship with their respective clubs, which would violate their integrity, in the opinion of the body chaired by Javier Thebes. FIFA understands that this is not a sufficient argument to refuse the transfer of the players, unlike those used by the Premier, which emphasizes that players who travel to South America should keep a quarantine upon their return due to the pandemic. Quarantine that in the case of Spain, according to FIFA, is not mandatory at this time after having been lifted by the Spanish health authorities in recent weeks.

In the event that the clubs turn a deaf ear to this threat and play a match with players in this situation, the rival teams could denounce them for improper alignment.

If the situation reaches this extreme, the Spanish teams involved (pending confirmation of all calls, a total of 12, with 27 players called up) could not count on their players for the fourth day of LaLiga Santander and in some cases, for the matches of the first day of the Champions League group stage, to be played on September 14 and 15.
