Enrique Meza looks for a new opportunity to return to the benches before retiring

The ‘Ojitos’ made it clear that he is looking for an opportunity as a strategist and not as a manager in Mexican soccer teams

Enrique Meza He has not managed in the first division for more than two years after he left Veracruz in 2019 and, in an exclusive interview with ESPNindicated that, although he is not desperate, he still has the illusion of returning to the national football bench.

“The truth is that I’m fine, I’d like to work of course but there has been no approach, no offer or anything like that. We don’t know what could happen but leaving football like this suddenly is not easy because been a constant in my life.First there is God, then my family and then soccer, which has made me many friends.

“The truth is that I like soccer a lot and to this day I still see it like when I was a child, I have been very happy in soccer, I must tell you that at the table in my house they are always talking about soccer , is always a recurring theme for all of us and the truth is that it has been very pleasant to work on it for so long”.

In his analysis of the lack of opportunities he has experienced in recent years, Enrique Meza finds as a common denominator the large number of foreigners in the national benchesbut, despite this, he does not criticize the interests of the owners of the teams.

“I think that everyone wants to do things, but the owners try to lower costs, perhaps they prefer to work with people from outside, thinking that they will be very good, and I have no doubt that they can really be very good, but Mexican soccer is not simple. Mexican soccer is very difficult because there is a lot of running, the Mexican player is different but I don’t doubt that they can handle it,” he said. Enrique Meza.

“Sometimes I think that we who are Mexicans can better understand many of the situations that sometimes are not understood by coming from other side and it is not because it is an extraordinarily difficult thing but simply because we are Mexicans and we are not easy at all, it is very easy at any given moment to prosecute or criticize the owners who bring in technicians from outside but they also seek to lower their costs to take care of the economy, surely they are trying to pay less and perhaps they will find technicians in the world who offer to make their teams and also the option to charge less, then it is a series of things that would be difficult to evaluate but I do not criticize the owners,” he continued.

Finally, “Ojitos” maintained that he does not rule out definitive retirement as a coach due to the lack of opportunities, but it is not a decision that he has already made at this time.

“Speaking of a time to wait would seem a bit absurd to me because I like this a lot, what I have clear is that I am a soccer coach. Some years ago I was offered to be the president of a team, they also offered me to be the sports director of another team and I did not accept because the day I accepted any job like that I would retire as a coach. Right now I am just a soccer coach without a job who is very attentive to everything that happens waiting for an opportunity, in the past I received many opportunities and if I don’t receive another one, I also put myself in God’s hands and thinking that if it’s over I’ll accept it because I was very happy with what I did and if it had to end I would have to accept it with pleasure and thank you for everything that I lived”.
