German Basketball Cup left its champion pending

The final will have to wait. For March, the definition of the German Basketball Cup was finally postponed, which for almost two weeks monopolized the attention of the discipline in southern Chile.

With 12 teams from various parts of the Region, the bulk of the 30th version of the contest organized by the CDA was held. Development that reached the instance of the Silver Cup, corresponding to the teams that were third and fourth in the respective groups, and where the German homeowners were the winners, followed by D. Concepción and Huachipato.

Pending was the conclusion of the Gold Cup, where the winners of each group were measured. For 3rd and 4th place they had to face Nacimiento with the Venezuelans from AV Express, while CD 31 Basket would face Vieja Escuela for the title. Duels that already have a date, as detailed by the event’s coordinator, Jaime Urrutia.

“We had some positive cases of Covid in the final part of the tournament and in that eventuality, the management preferred to suspend the final for March 5. This is how at 4:00 p.m. they will play for third place, while from 6:00 p.m. it will be the grand final. The idea is that it has the connotation of transcendence that it deserves,” he said.

The outstanding coach was satisfied with the tournament, and anticipated news in this regard. “As an organization we are super happy with the confidence and commitment of the participating clubs. This year we have a new challenge with the German Cup in the formative series, with a national tournament in the 13, 15 and 17-year-old categories. We hope it will be the second half of July and we can count on the most important teams at the national level in training”, he summarized.

One of the teams that will play the tournament final in March will be Vieja Escuela, the oldest team with an average age of 39. Its captain, Rodolfo Cáceres, highlighted the group’s work.

“The tournament was super enriching. We started losing but we got stronger as the games went by, we began to loosen up, we went from less to more, taking the rhythm of playing at a competitive level. The final will be a high-caliber game because CD 31 Basket are all my former teammates who played in Alemán, and they also have players who played in the LNB in ​​the second division. It will be a nice day that will serve as preparation for the Pan American and everything that comes”, he closed.
