SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- The Virgilio Castillo (Chola) club from La Romana and the Laguneros from San Cristóbal triumphed this Wednesday on the opening day of the First TBS Champions Cup Basketball Tournament 2023, as an option for the BanReservas Cup.
Chola Castillo disposed of the Correcaminos de Puerto Plata 119-117, in double overtime, in the match played at the Palacio de los Deportes Professor Virgilio Travieso Soto, the official venue of the contest that will be held until Sunday and which has a special dedication to Luisín Mejía Oviedo, member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The romanenses made use of the offense of Yeison Colomé, who scored 54 points and grabbed nine rebounds, in a formidable afternoon in which he shot 15-23 from the field, 3-13 from the three-point arc and 17-15 in the free throw lines, in 49:14 minutes of play.
Yomar Thomas seconded with 19 points, Jonathan Hodge 16, Melvyn Olivares contributed 10 with seven sacks and Ronny Guerrero had seven baskets, 24 rebounds and blocked seven.
For the fallen, Junior Martínez scored 32 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and distributed seven balls, Kelvin -El Pollito- Peña had 24 points, six rebounds and six turnovers, Diosel Ulloa 16 plus nine rebounds, José Jiménez 12 Isaac Brito 10 and Enmanuel Marte 10 and 12 rebounds.
In the first hour match, the Laguneros from San Cristóbal defeated Parque Hostos de La Vega 83-80, which took place this Wednesday at the Casa de Don Virgilio.
José Pineda led the attack of the winners with 18 points, Juan de los Santos 12, Braulio De la Cruz 11 with seven rebounds, and Daurys Sánchez had 10.
