The Mavericks terminated the contract of Facundo Campazzo

The Dallas Mavericks rescinded the contract of Argentine point guard Facundo Campazzo on Monday to sign Kemba Walker, in an attempt to change the dynamics after a lackluster start to the season, according to the Texan franchise.

The four consecutive losses suffered by Jason Kidd’s team, which is currently out of the Western Conference playoff zone, convinced the Texans to bet on point guard Walker to offer more support to Slovenian Luka Doncic.

Incorporated on October 18, Campazzo leaves the Mavericks without a role and, if he is not claimed by a team in the next 48 hours, he will become a free agent. While waiting for an NBA offer, another option that appears on his horizon is to return to European basketball.

Kemba Walker, 32-year-old point guard, was a four-time All-Star and played in his career with the Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.

To sign the American guard, the Mavericks terminated Campazzo’s contract after less than a month and a half with the team, as Shams Charania, a journalist from The Athletic and the Mavs confirmed this Monday.

The Argentine, a former Real Madrid player, hardly played for Kidd’s team. He averaged 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 6.5 minutes on court (8 games). His previous experience in the NBA was with the Denver Nuggets, a team with which he played two seasons (2020/21 and 2021/22).

In this way, Campazzo will part ways with Luka Doncic, with whom he had also shared the dressing room during his successful spell at Real Madrid. The 31-year-old Argentine won two Euroleagues with Real Madrid, in 2015 and 2018, and three league titles, in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

The Mavericks are eleventh in the Western Conference with a record of 10-11 and have four straight losses, the last of which was suffered this Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

With this news, Leandro Bolmaro, of the Utah Jazz, is the only Argentine player with a contract in an NBA team.
