But what is the Draft?
- This event, which consists of 60 selections, two per franchise during two rounds, has as its main objective to level the NBA franchises, giving the opportunity to those with the worst record during the season to select the best young talents.
- For the first 14 picks, a draw is made between the teams that did not make it to the Playoffs. This time around, the Detroit Pistons will have the chance to pick the # 1 pick. In second place in the draw were the Rockets followed by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
- The rest of the picks, from 15 to 30, are selected from the best records of the season. The same happens with the second round.
- Each team, during the event, has 5 minutes to define their selection during the first round and only two minutes in the second round.
Who are the main candidates for the first picks?
- Unlike what happened during 2020, this year it seems to be much clearer the name that will be mentioned by Adam Silver as the first selection for the Pistons. In this case, Cade Cunningham is the great candidate. The Oklahoma State perimeter made it clear that, after the elimination in the NCAA at the hands of Oregon State, that in this 2021 their intentions were to leave the University to join the NBA.
- Gonzaga’s point guard Jalen Suggs, G League Ignite Jalen Green and USC pivot Evan Mobley affirm themselves between picks 2 and 4 according to specialists.
- Names like Scottie Barnes, Jonathan Kuminga and Davion Mitchell hope to complete the top 10 spots of this 2021 Draft.

Some data to keep in mind
- As commissioner, this will be Adam Silver’s 15th consecutive draft (7th as deputy commissioner).
- Since the Draft adopted the two-round format in 1989, Kentucky has been the University with the highest number of picks in the same edition: 6 in 2012 and 2015.
- The draft will be held again during July for the first time since 1947, the inaugural year of the event.
