Kevin Durant on having Irving at home: “I’m glad it’s all behind me”

Without a doubt it has been one of the news of the last week in the NBA. After months of controversy and diverse opinions, Kyrie Irving was authorized by the New York government to play Brooklyn home games.

The change, both on a personal level for the player and collectively for the organization, is enormous. Irving will be able to play the rest of the season, including the playoffs without the Nets in them, full time. Brooklyn, for its part, sees its options to fight for everything this season increase by being able to have one of its two best players on the court without any restriction. The other piece of this puzzle of stars, Kevin Durant, can only show his satisfaction with the return of his partner.

“It is something that has been a long time coming. It’s an exciting time for fans of the Brooklyn Nets and fans of New York as they get to see one of our guys back home. It means a lot to our team. We are happy to have him back and hope to finish the season strong. I am glad that all this is behind us », he comments to the media.

Despite the pressures suffered in recent months, the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, has not changed the regulations until these last days. Let us remember that the NBA commissioner himself, Adam Silver, who publicly stressed that the mandate that prevented Kyrie Irving from playing was nonsense. Well, it has coincided with the start of Major League Baseball that Adams has turned the tide.

“The situation is what it is. I’m not naive about the fact that the Mets and Yankees have a lot of power in our city. I’m sure once everyone pitched in and had conversations with whoever they were supposed to, they were able to push through to this. Sports are a huge factor in a lot of these big cities and I’m glad we can do things in a way that moves everyone forward. I know the fans in New York City are excited,” he says.
