The Under 17 Selective took full advantage of the locality and prevailed in the tough Regional Stage. He successively defeated San Antonio de Areco, Chivilcoy and General Rodríguez.
Pilar’s basketball added a new team to the Provincial Final of the Buenos Aires Games, the most important sporting and cultural competition in the province that this year is passing its 30th edition.
On the day of this Tuesday, the cast that reached the passage was that of the male Under 17 category, by winning the title of the Regional Stage that took place in the gyms of the Sportivo and Atlético Pilar clubs.
The activity was organized by the Community Sports Directorate through the Municipal Basketball and Women’s Basketball Schools.
The local cast was measured against the champions of the other nine districts that make up Region 6 and marked clear differences over the rest, obtaining the ticket in a more than fair way.
The Selectivo Pilarense had to face a tough day from the physical as they played three matches in a few hours but was able to save them in the best way, exhibiting good individual performances and a very good collective walk.
On the Atlético field and in the duel that marked his debut, the squad led by Mauro Gentiluomo was much more than his adversary and demolished San Antonio de Areco by 81-46.
This success earned him a pass to the semifinals, where he ran into the other great favorite: Chivilcoy. But Pilar’s boys played at a high level and in a balanced and even game, they managed to take decisive advantages in the fourth segment to claim victory by 67 to 57.
In the final, Pilar ran into General Rodríguez, who in the Sportivo gym had given account of the fierce Mercedes team in overtime.
The start of the lawsuit was of extreme parity but after halftime, the homeowners took the lead on the scoreboard based on good defense and greater efficiency in attack to enter the final 10, winning 59-42.
General Rodríguez played his last card at the start of the final chapter. He tried to press the entire court and forced a couple of Pilarean errors but Gentiluomo’s men knew how to correct them in time and did not pass any hot flash to end up winning 85-58.
The Pilarense team formed with Ramiro Fiore, Mauricio Cañete, Ezequiel Henriques, Ilhan Gentiluomo, Facundo Latorre, Ramiro Gómez, Joaquín Peñagaricano, Santiago Villarreal and Santiago Soqueira.
It is worth remembering that Pilar’s men’s basketball already has in the Provincial Final the Selective of the Sub 15 divisional, which last week won the Regional title by beating Mercedes in the final.
