Gennaro Gattuso leaves Fiorentina 23 days after he was hired

Gennaro Gattuso’s month of work with La Fiore was not even completed as the strategist ended his relationship with the club in common agreement

Fiorentina announced the departure of Gennaro Gattuso as technical director of the team just 23 days after his hiring, a situation that was due to differences over transfers in this transfer market, sources told ESPN.

La Viola barely hired ‘Rino’ on May 25, two days after he left Napoli.

ACF Fiorentina and Mister Rino Gattuso, by mutual agreement, decided not to continue with the agreement they had and, therefore, they will not start the next season together.

The club will immediately work to define the coach to guide the team towards the results that Fiorentina and the city of Florence deserve it ”, says the text shared by the club.

Sources told ESPN that Fiorentina is unhappy with the “unacceptable situation” with the players represented by Jorge Mendes. Sergio Oliveira and Gonzalo Guedes, from Porto and Valencia, respectively, are Mendes clients that this market pointed to the Italian team.

Gattuso’s departure has increased the pressure on Fiorentina’s American owner Rocco B. Commisso, who has seen five changes of direction in just two seasons, earning him 10th and 13th places.

Commisso stayed with Vincenzo Montella when he bought the club in June 2019 before firing him in December of that year and replacing him with Beppe Iachini, which lasted until November 2020.

Fiorentina then turned to former coach Cesare Prandelli, who resigned in March 2021, citing “internal darkness”, and Iachini was rehired to end the campaign.

Gattuso began his career as a coach with the Swiss Sion in 2013 and, after stints in Greece and in the Italian lower leagues, was appointed Milan coach in 2017 before assuming the role at Napoli in 2019.
