First joy for Newcastle with Trippier as leader

Magpie fans hadn’t met their team at St. James Park in 17 days, but the wait was worth it. The new signings of both teams were the main attraction of a duel that ended up becoming a frenzy. Before the first half hour, two toffee players had already been injured (Grey and Mina), and had to be replaced. The intensity of the clash gave the curious the improvised debut of Dele Alli and two own goals.

The first was scored by Everton in the 35th minute thanks to an own goal by Lascelles. But Newcastle’s massive central defender didn’t seem to weigh too much, and on the next attack he forced Holgate’s own goal, leveling the scoreboard. Part of the blame lay with one of the great magpie hires: Trippier took corners and free kicks, as precise as they were elegant, which became a true chimera for the visiting defense.

Going through the locker room did not help calm the game, which was becoming more and more intense, and with the yellow ones happening (the match would end with 5 yellow cards). Into that hostile climate came Saint-Maximin, putting his talents to the service of rough-and-ready Newcastle to shatter Everton’s defence. One of his attacks down the left flank gave rise to the comeback goal in the 55th minute, which Fraser ended up scoring.

Newcastle went all out, and on a free kick from the edge of the box, Trippier unleashed the euphoria of his new hobby. A tight shot from the edge, which overtook the busy Pickford, served to secure the comeback. With the three goals from the locals, Everton was overshadowed. Not even the premiere of their new signings, Alli and Van de Beek, seemed to help them. A disappointment for his new manager, Frank Lampard, who saw how the fans of St. James Park bounced with joy, because Newcastle does have reason to be excited.
