Fenerbahçe dreams of Marcelo following Roberto Carlos

The transfer market closed in Spain, France, Italy, England, Germany … but it is still alive in Turkey, until midnight on Wednesday, which is causing the Ottoman teams to launch their attempts at the discards or less important players from the rest of the leagues. In that context, Fenerbahçe once again sounds like a possible destination for a player who has been tempting for several years: Marcelo. This is how the Turkish press reports this Monday, with concrete ‘Milliyet’.

The moment could not be more ideal, that is true: Marcelo knows that he is starting as a substitute this year at Real Madrid, despite the fact that he is the first captain after the departure of Ramos. At the moment he has Alaba, who has already played a couple of games as a left back, probably also Mendy when he recovers from his physical problems, and even Miguel Gutiérrez, the factory’s gold youth squad.

Ancelotti gave a lot of importance to Marcelo in his first stage in Madrid, but it also relegated him to the substitution in important moments, such as in the 2013-14 Champions League final, in favor of Coentrao, A sign that the Italian does not tolerate Marcelo’s defensive mistakes well. And these mistakes are now much more frequent than then, it could already be seen in the white preseason, in which the Brazilian suffered to keep his back covered.

However, it is not at all expected that Marcelo ends up at Fenerbahçe this year: he has a net record of eight million per season, an unattainable figure for the Turkish team, and the contract ends in 2022. Florentino Pérez has already confirmed that he would stay this year to be the first captain, although de facto Benzema will be on the pitch, since the Frenchman is the one who has more guaranteed minutes in Madrid 2021-22. Marcelo himself wants to end his almost 16 years in white, say goodbye with all honors and in 2022 look for a new project.

Marcelo and Roberto Carlos, wingers and friends

Thus, it will be in the summer of 2022 when Fenerbahçe will make their final offensive on Marcelo, with the dream of repeating what they already achieved with Roberto Carlos at the time. The historic Brazilian winger, who played for Madrid between 1996 and 2007, finished his contract in white and went to the Istanbul team, where he played 104 games, scored 10 goals and gave 13 assists in two and a half years.

Marcelo will end this season at the age of 34 and his performance has only decreased since the 2018-19 season, in which he lost the starting position. Turkey may be a good opportunity to stay in Europe for a few more years, and incidentally to be able to follow in the wake of his friend Roberto Carlos.
