The Spanish defender had a sincere conversation with the Barça coach
“When things are clear, it is understood and I think Xavi understood it”, he assures
César Azpilicueta was Xavi Hernández’s number target to reinforce Barça’s right-back. The footballer, in fact, waited for weeks for the operation to take place, but finally he was forced to make a decision and chose to stay at Chelsea. This is how he made it known to the Blaugrana coach, with whom he had a sincere chat, as he explained in ‘Carrusel Canalla’ on Cadena Ser.
“At Chelsea I played less than 30 games and I was already a free agent. It had never happened to me in my life. The new owners arrived and they showed me the desire to stay for me”, he commented in the interview, in which he also assured that “London is my home and my children speak better English than Spanish“. The footballer shared his concerns with the Barça coach: “When I made the decision, I think Xavi understood it. If things are clear, they are understood.”
On the Spanish trajectory in the World Cup, commented that “now comes the good part and we have to show what we are capable of”. And he claimed the role that the selection is playing: “We are very excited. Everyone took the qualifying phase for granted, but Italy is out, Portugal entered the play-offs…”. Of course, he admits that he suffered against Japan because of Costa Rica’s momentary victory against Germany: “When they tell us that Costa Rica has scored and that we are eliminated, it almost gives me something. It was a group in which anything could happen.”
