NFL sets salary cap at $208.2 million for 2022 season

The figure represents an increase of 25.7 million dollars compared to the maximum limit for the teams in the last campaign.

The NFL informed his 32 teams that the salary cap for the 2022 season has been set at $208.2 millionaccording to a memorandum obtained by ESPN.

It marks a significant increase over the salary cap of last season, which was set at just 182.5 million dollars per team, due to projected revenue for the 2021 season and lost revenue during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic COVID-19. That figure represented a drop from the 2020 salary cap, which was set at $198.2 million.

The league also set the amounts for franchise player designations. The quarterbacks who are tagged with a non-exclusive franchise tag by the 4 p.m. deadline Tuesday ET will be paid $29.703 million for the 2022 season if they don’t agree to a long-term contract for before July 15, the deadline for franchise players to achieve a multi-year agreement.

The other amounts for franchise player designations, based on position, are:

• corridors: 9,570 million dollars

• wide receivers: 18,419 million dollars

• closed wings: 10,931 million dollars

• offensive linemen: 16,662 million dollars

• defensive wings: 17,859 million dollars

• defensive tackles: 17,396 million dollars

• linebackers: 18,702 million dollars

• cornerbacks: 17,287 million dollars

• Safety: 12,911 million dollars

• Place kickers and punters: $5.22 million dollars

The teams must remain in the salary capor below, no later than 4 pm ET on Wednesday, March 16, when the new league year officially kicks off.

Teams can begin negotiating contracts with unrestricted free agents beginning Monday, March 14, at noon ET. However, contracts cannot be finalized until the official start of the new league year.
