NFL announces Super Bowl LVI roster

We are officially two weeks away from Super Bowl LVI, which will be played between the Rams and Bengals next Sunday, February 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and this game that will define the next NFL champion begins to take shape. The league announced the refereeing roster for Super Bowl LVI, and these are the names you need to know.

Last January 25, NFL Operations made official the referee template who will referee Super Bowl LVI between Cincinnati and Los Angeles next Sunday, February 13. The chosen ones were:

• head referee: Ron Torbert (first Super Bowl)
• umpire: Bryan Neale (first Super Bowl)
• downs judge: Derick Bowers (was in SB XLIII)
• Line judge: Carl Johnson (was in SB XLII and LIV)
• field judge: Rick Patterson (was in SB XXXVII and XXXIX)
• band judge: Keith Washington (first Super Bowl)
• back judge: Scott Helverson (was in SB XLII and XLV)
• replay referee: Roddy Ames (first Super Bowl)

Ron Torbert, who will serve as head referee for Super Bowl LVI, has 12 seasons of experience as an official in the league, making his NFL debut in 2010 as a sideline judge, and being promoted to referee in 2014. Since then he has served as Head referee in six Playoff games, including twice in the Wild Card Round and another four in the Divisional Round.

His most recent performance came just a couple of weeks ago, in the 49ers’ stunning 13-10 victory over the Packers in the Divisional Round of the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

Finally, it should be noted that Torbert’s squad averaged 12.3 handkerchiefs per game during the regular season, fourth best among the 17 in the league. However, this time he will be working with a different group of officials, who earned their respective appointments thanks to their many strong performances during 2021.
