The High Performance program of the Secretary of State for Sports, promoted by the Government of San Juan since the end of 2015, is also synonymous with the protection and support of hundreds of young athletes from San Juan. Santiago Nesman (17), a Jáchal Basketball Club player, is part of the staff and plans to achieve important things this year in all the competitions in which he participates.
Santiago is a young man who from his beginnings in basketball showed his talent, and thanks to personal sacrifice he continues to add unforgettable experiences in his short sports career. The forward, who at only 17 years old was champion of the Binational Games in 2019, runner-up in the last edition of the Binational Games in 2021, and is already part of the first team of Jáchal Básquetbol Club, in the last hours he was summoned to the preselection Argentina basketball team to be part of a concentration with the training categories, which will take place in the province of La Rioja from February 3 to 18.
The athlete of the High Performance program will be part of a squad of 38 players belonging to the 2004 categories (of which he is a part), 2005 and 2006. This concentration will be the second part of the program after the camp in Corrientes, and in this stage will train from February 3 to 18 in La Rioja. After the training sessions, and based on the performance shown, the coaching staff of the Argentine Basketball Confederation will make a cut and designate a team for future competitions.
Santiago’s goal is to be in the final selection of players, and to be part of the team that will play the South American, which will take place in Venezuela, more precisely in the city of Caracas. The competition will take place from March 21 to 26. This competition will qualify for the FIBA Americas (from June 6 to 12), the instance prior to the 2023 U19 World Cup.
