ANDl corner Malcolm Butler return to the New England Patriotsafter signing a contract for four years and nine million dollars, a team from which he left in 2017.
During the 2021 season, Butler was on the Arizona Cardinals’ reserve list after working out with the team during training camp and preseason. Cardinals defensive coordinator vance josephnoted that “personal issues” led Butler to be placed on that list.
The Cardinals Butler was released on Feb. 17, freeing him to sign with any team, and so he returns to New England, where he began his NFL career in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of West Alabama.
Butler, 32, was the hero in the Patriots’ 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. His interception inside the end zone in the final seconds of the game is one of the most iconic plays in franchise history, and in the entire NFL.
Then-Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores’ decision to bring Butler onto the field for the play and his cry of “Malcolm, come on!” is also emblematic of New England sports tradition.
Now, it’s “Malcolm, come!”, with Butler one of several candidates to fill the void left by J C Jackson He is going free agency to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Butler left the Patriots as a free agent at the end of the 2017 season, after signing a five-year, $61.25 million contract with the Patriots. Tennessee Titans.
His final game with the Patriots was controversial, after not participating in any plays of the Super Bowl LIIwhen Patriots lost to
philadelphia eagles 41-33, even though the team couldn’t stop quarterback Nick Foles and the Eagles’ passing offense.
