Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola considered that La Liga president Javier Tebas needs to learn from the Premier League to strengthen the Spanish tournament.
Thebes has criticized the City’s purchasing power in the past, accusing it of disobeying UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules and complaining about “state-owned football clubs.”
City were temporarily expelled from the Champions League for violating FFP regulations in 2020, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned the punishment following an appeal.
“The Premier League, which can be seen in Asia, runs better than La Liga,” Guardiola said at an event in Catalonia on Monday.
“Lord Thebes needs to learn. Perhaps it could sell the product better in other countries. People complain about (club spending), but thanks to that investment, other clubs in other countries can keep doing things.
“Perhaps it is the only business in which investing is considered a bad thing. I don’t understand it because it has an effect on clubs around the world ”.
As Spanish clubs are now battling losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic, with Barcelona struggling to accommodate Lionel Messi’s new contract, Premier League clubs continue to spend.
Manchester United signed Jadon Sancho for € 85 million last week after Chelsea spent a lot last summer, signing Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, among others.
Meanwhile, City have been linked to moves of more than 100 million euros for Harry Kane and Jack Grealish this summer.
“What is the problem if United, City, Chelsea or Liverpool, economically strong clubs because their owners want to invest, do not want to make money and prefer to continue reinvesting so that the club continues to grow for the fans?” Added Guardiola.
“There is always UEFA control, like Financial Fair Play. If you sell the product better, people pay more for television rights. Mr. Thebes, who knows more than anyone and is wiser than all and is involved in other businesses, should learn.
“Maybe this way Barça, Madrid, Atlético and Valencia would have more resources to invest in what they need. If we exceed the mark, we will be punished and we will not be able to play (certain competitions) but since it is not like that, let everyone do what they want ”.
Guardiola added that Barça and Real Madrid, who have financial problems, would certainly be open to great offers for their City players.
“Imagine if we want to sign a Barça or Madrid player for 100 million euros, neither of them would complain, they would be delighted.”
