Two teens arrested on charges of fatally shooting college basketball player in New Jersey

Two New Jersey teenagers have been arrested and charged with involvement in a shooting in which a college basketball player was killed.the authorities reported.

Philip Urban, 20, was shot dead in a white Mercedes-Benz that was parked in a nature reserve on December 17.

The arrest of the suspects, ages 16 and 17, took place Friday afternoon, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the New York Post reported.

The two involved were formally charged with murder, felony manslaughter, robbery and weapons offences, according to the police report.

Urban was found slumped in the driver’s seat of the Mercedes-Benz and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police investigation determined that the two teenagers took Urban to a nature reserve with the intention of stealing a quarter of a pound of marijuana, whose value was estimated at $800, and was murdered after being robbed.

Urban, who is a native of Manalapan, New Jersey, he appeared in two games this college season as a reserve player.

“This kid has dealt with a lot of adversity in the last year, and if I told you how he handled it, you’d be proud too!” a former coach tweeted about Urban earlier this year. “Super excited for ‘Philly man’ – he stayed humble, trusted the process and achieved a goal.”
