Thompson sent off for the first time in his career

PHOENIX — Klay Thompson was ejected from the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night after committing two consecutive technical fouls in the third quarter.

It was Thompson’s first career ejection in 759 regular-season and playoff games.

Thompson had been verbally arguing with Devin Booker of the Suns for several minutes in the third quarter. With six and a half minutes remaining in the period, the two continued to exchange words and then collided chests, resulting in double technicals for both players.

As Thompson started to walk away, Michael Bridges crashed it Thompson pushed him and shortly after received the second technique from him, causing him to be ejected. He had to be stopped by his teammate Stephen Curry and Warriors assistant coach Chris DeMarco.

A total of seven technical fouls were called in the third quarter between the two teams.

As Thompson walked off the court, he continued to yell at the Suns’ bench, waving at them while pointing to his hand, apparently in reference to his four championship rings.

Thompson was scheduled to play about 25 minutes against the Suns before his ejection. He finished the night with 18 minutes, in which he scored just 2 points. He went 0-for-4, including 0-for-3 from the arc, with Booker as his primary defender, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Before the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Thompson has been frustrated playing under his current minute restriction as he returns to full conditioning. At shooting practice earlier in the day, Thompson said he didn’t expect to have to exercise the same kind of patience he did when he returned from a two-year layoff last season.
