The Brooklyn Nets hold a meeting between players

NEW YORK – The Brooklyn Nets held a players’ meeting after Saturday night’s 125-116 loss to the Indiana Pacers. It was the Nets’ fourth straight loss and left them 1-5 this season.

“It was a disaster,” Nets coach Steve Nash said of the setback. “How else can you say it? I didn’t see the will, I didn’t see the desire or the connectivity to get cuts and rebounds,” he added.

The Nets looked like a dead team against a Pacers who outplayed them in work and pressure. The Nets have struggled to find consistency this season.

“It was a sh*t night…” the Nets forward said, Kevin Durant. “Excuse my language, but it was a bad night… We are angry,” KD said.

Signs of a reunion became apparent shortly after the Nets’ last disappointing loss. Nash, who usually speaks to the media a few minutes after the game ends, was late for his news conference. The Nets’ locker room, which usually opens right after Nash is done speaking, was closed long after the news conference was complete. Once the locker room finally opened, the atmosphere was tense as players quietly dressed outside their locker rooms and filed out of Barclays Center.

“She was honest,” said the Nets point guard, Ben Simmonsabout the meeting. “We had a conversation. Obviously, I’m not going to talk about it, but it was honest. That’s what winning teams do. Hold each other accountable, be able to be open and talk to your teammates, and respect that.”

Durant was asked if, in his experience in the league, meetings helped a team come together.

“We’re in constant communication all the time,” Durant said. “Whether it’s a scheduled meeting or not, I think we all talk about what we need to do as a team every day. We’re always in constant dialogue about what we need to do as a group, so I wouldn’t say it was anything special.”

Nash was asked if he felt his message was still getting through to the team.

“They’re listening to him,” Nash added. “We had a lot of really good days here early in the season and we lost a couple of games and it shook our mindset. And we’re not seeing the same competitive spirit, the same purpose and if we don’t fix that, it’s not going to get any better. getting out of difficult positions is having character and a competitive spirit,” he said.
