Rick Owens reinvents 80’s basketball shoes with the new Converse TURBOWPN

The launch of the duo made up of Rick Owens Y converse in 2021 it was only the beginning of what both had prepared for us, as they return with a second collaboration that includes a reinvented version of the brand’s original Weapon.

Putting a twist on the classic basketball shoe, this new release confirms the link between the worlds of fashion and sport.

For this occasion they chose to leave aside the color, taking the minimalism to the max in a modernist approach and with the luxury that Rick Owens puts into his designs.

The TURBOWPN It is the squared version of the Weapon silhouette with which you are surely familiar, but carrying the signature of Owens could not be exempt from the minimalist-maximalist aestheticwith distorted details and exaggerated proportions.

Regarding its image, the outsole received an increase in size to create a platform, inside the silhouette there is a CX foam to make you more comfortable. As expected, the materials with which they were made are top quality, with a reinforced toe and wide laces.

If you have a good eye, you will be able to recognize some nods to the previous collaboration between Owens and Conversethe DRKSTAR Chucks, like the elongated tongues and the stitched details.

The TURBOWPNs don’t come alone, Rick Owens’ DRKSHDW accessories return including a classic nylon baseball cap, a drawstring bag and a mini backpack.

The sneakers come to complement the history of the Converse Weapon that began on the NBA court in 1986, a complete innovation for the time that was part of the best plays of some of the greatest basketball players.

Owens’ reinvention does not completely say goodbye to some details that they keep reminding us of the original Weapon such as the silhouette, the lines of the midsole, the ‘Y’ bar, the heel and the unique design of the upper.

The Converse x DRKSHDW TURBOWPN are available from May 3 at converse.com.mx for $5,499, while accessories range from $899 to $2,799.
