“It’s a shame that the clubs take the championship so little serious”

In group B of the Uruguayan 3 × 3 League, Aguada continues as the undefeated leader in a tournament that has him far above all. Rogelio De León spoke without mincing words with Básquet Total after finishing the double day.

Aguada was a weekend more clearly superior to his rivals. Rogelio stopped and analyzed the championship so far without a cassette: It is clear that we have a great advantage in the post both with Justin (Peirce) and with me, but this is mainly due to how unfortunate the clubs took this championship. The truth is very little serious to send players who do not have a level to play, there are people who do not even have the basics of basketball. It’s not that I’m getting bigger, but honestly it’s a shame that the clubs take the championship so little seriously. Let’s see, it is not going that the tournament should be like Aguada did, who even has a foreigner, but at least take it with the seriousness you should, being that it is a FUBB tournament and it is also an Olympic sport. At times it seems that we are playing in a small square ”.

“Players from the main teams, from the U21, players who are in other divisions such as the DTA or identified with the club. As is the case with Capitol, that although they do not play first, they remain active and have a certain level so that this is a little more serious. Because it really seems that we came to a little square when in reality it is the official championship of the Federation ” culminated saying in internal red-green.

Asked about the 3 × 3 discipline and its characteristics and feelings in the championship, Rogelio said: “I thought it was going to cost me a bit more, but I think it is also due to the low level there is. Sometimes boring, I don’t want to demean anyone or believe it is a great thing, but I play against players who are mostly 1.70 meters tall and the truth is that that makes you feel a little bit wanting, because there comes a point that is not funny. I would like much more to play a tournament where rigor is felt, the struggle. The 3 × 3 is a sport that would have to have much more contact than the 5 × 5, much more intense and it is the opposite, at the moment we play walking ”.

Asked about how he sees the future of this tournament in Uruguay: “Hopefully this first tournament will be an apprenticeship, not for me, but for generations to come. The 3 × 3 is a discipline that is very good. In addition, this league could allow many players who are left without a team or without competition options to have their space and play. It can even lead to players deciding to have a career in 3 × 3 and not in 5 × 5 ”.
