In Coachella, work will soon begin to remodel one of the most important parks in the city.

Bagdouma Park is not only one of the most important parks, but the largest park in Coachella.

City Mayor Steven Hernandez says thousands of dollars will be spent to renovate some areas of the popular park.

Cracks in the cement characterize the park’s four basketball courts.

The green surface paint and sports court frame lines have also faded.

“We know that they are very finished and they need to be rebuilt,” said Mayor Hernandez.

He says that very soon he will start an effort to renovate the courts.

“It is important that we continue to maintain it well and, at the same time, rebuild a park that the city deserves,” said Hernandez.

Almost half a million dollars will be allocated for its reconstruction and other improvements.

New proposed plans include rebuilding the courts, removing the old fence around them, and installing new basketball hoops.

During the most recent city council meeting, it was proposed that the concrete on the courts might be painted green and gold, the colors of Coachella Valley High School.

Other alterations include expanding the sidewalk onto the field to comply with the law for persons with disabilities.

“For us, we know that the park has many uses, it is located where there is a large population, not only of young people but of every age,” said Hernandez.

The advanced design with community support shows that the current courts will be replaced with two full basketball courts, one half court, one tennis court, and two other pickleball courts.

The mayor explains that they are also going to add lights to illuminate the soccer fields and a new bathroom will be built.

“I think that we can start construction in August training in September and more or less they have a time of 6 months to 8 months, for next year, starting the new year, we will have new courts in Bagdouma park”, he concluded. Hernandez.

The funds come from a grant known as the ‘Community Development Block Grant’.
