Why is Julio Urías not considered for Cy Young despite a great season in MLB?

Los Angeles Dodgers has an elite starting rotation in the Season 2021 from MLB and among the elements that stand out in it is Julio Urías, who is making solid starts on the mound. The Mexican is the leader of games won on the circuit so far, but despite this may not be considered a Cy Young Award nominee for Best Pitcher of the Year and here we share why this could be.

Julio Urías had several seasons showing his intentions to be considered one of the best Mexican pitchers in MLB. After several years of trying, he has finally managed to consolidate himself on the Los Angeles Dodgers mound.

Until Monday, September 6, the native of Culiacán, Sinaloa is the leader in games won on the circuit, showing the quality of starts he has had, which despite them could not be considered as a candidate for the Cy Young Award.

Why? There are many variants that could be pointed out as reasons for Uriah’s exclusion. One of them could be a ‘racism’ on the part of the MLB to the Mexican, the marketing issue that suggests that an American draws more attention from the voters, or the numbers in the effectiveness department.

The sportsbooks also do not favor the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, putting figures such as Walker Buehler, Corbin Burnes, Brando Woodruff and his teammate, Max Scherzer, above him.

There are still a few days left in the 2021 MLB Season and Julio Urías could change his path positively or negatively and perhaps leave these assumptions behind and become the Cy Young of the 2021 MLB National League.

I joined ‘Al Bat’ in September 2020, starting a new work stage in which I always seek to give my best version, in addition to leaving a significant mark on the passage of women in an industry that is managed mainly by men. Degree in Communication Sciences and Techniques from the Inter-American University for Development (UNID), I am a specialist in sports journalism, writing and editing texts, I have three years of experience covering sports, especially baseball from the Mexican Baseball League (LMB ), Liga Mexicana del Pacífico (LMP) and MLB. I was an intern at the LMB Leones de Yucatán Baseball Club, with whom I attended the 2019 Rey Series. I have done work for social networks such as the coverage of the 2019-2020 edition of the LMP Final for ‘Con Las Bases Llenas’. I am constantly updated on social networks, SEO, Google positioning, writing, digital journalism, as well as the place of women in the sports industry. Originally from Mérida, Yucatán, my first approach to baseball was in a game of Lions of Yucatán, in the ‘Kukulcán Álamo’ Park, in 2015; and that changed my life completely. The ‘Melenudos’ are the team of my loves and the greatest passion I have in this sport. Although I dedicate myself to baseball most of the time, my sport, in the beginning, was (and still is) soccer. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich won my heart and fans from ‘minute one’ and I am fortunate to have already seen them play live. Clearly, I am a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer.
