This is how Mets firms impacted the market

The Mets had a shopping feast on Friday. But while most buyers are looking for discounts in the hours after Thanksgiving, New York has committed nearly $ 125 million in contracts in a bid to bolster an offense that ranked 13th in runs scored and 12th in. OPS in 2021.

The Yankees have publicized their interest in shortstop, but it appears they are leaning toward a lower-cost option. The Mariners have said JP Crawford will remain at the position, but general manager Jerry Dipoto is open to signing free agents. The Yankees also seem to be well interested in improving the infield, but their target is Trevor Story.

The Blue Jays are still trying to keep Semien, but if they can’t, they could shift their focus to another free agent.

Starting pitching
It is the market that has been most active in the first weeks of free agency, with the signatures of Venezuelan Eduardo Escobar, Justin Verlander, Steven Matz, Anthony DeSclafani, Noah Syndergaard, Andrew Heaney and Michael Wacha.

Robbie Ray and Kevin Gausman are seen as the free agents in search of the longest contracts, while Max Scherzer will be more focused on the annual value of his pact. Of the three, Ray is the only one tied to compensation in the amateur draft, for rejecting the qualifying offer. The Dodgers hope they can renew Scherzer.

After beefing up their offense, the Mets will now focus on pitching, although it remains to be seen whether they plan to do so later in the market. Marcus Stroman is still an option, but there are several teams interested.

Even after renewing DeSclafani, the Giants are still looking for starting pitching. A reunion with Gausman is not out of the question, although San Francisco seems to want two (or three) more pitchers to complement Logan Webb and DeSclafani.

There are many candidates beyond those mentioned, led by Jon Gray and Carlos Rodón, in addition to Alex Wood, Yusei Kikuchi, Alex Cobb, Zack Greinke, Corey Kluber and Danny Duffy.

It looks like Gray will be the next to sign. The Rangers are among the teams most interested, along with the Mets.

Gardens
Mars was the best patrol car available, but there are other major players still unsigned.

Nick Castellanos, who was called up to his first All-Star Game in 2021 before exiting his contract with the Reds, should generate a lot of attention. Rangers and Padres are looking for an improvement in their offense.

One who is likely not to return to Queens will be Michael Conforto, after spending the first seven years of his career with the Mets. Conforto turned down the qualified offer and now New York has added Mars and Canha to the equation. Conforto is coming off a tough season and could be destined to settle for a one-year deal, like what Marcus Semien got last year with Toronto.

Another interesting option is Seiya Suzuki, who was put on the post system by the Hiroshima Karp.

Kyle Schwarber, Venezuelan Avisaíl García, Cuban Jorge Soler and Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario are still available as well.

Swiss Army Knives
Two of the most intriguing players on the market are Kris Bryant and Chris Taylor, who can generate a lot of interest due to their versatility.

Many believe the Mets may be a logical destination for Bryant, although Friday’s feast could lead them away from the gunner. The Giants could renew him, although the Mariners, Phillies, Nationals and Rangers have been linked with the former 2016 National League MVP.

Bryant could sell himself as a third baseman or corner outfielder, expanding the list of interested outfits.

The same can be said for Taylor, who offers greater versatility than Bryant. Taylor, who was first called up to the All-Star Game in 2021, can defend middle, third base, shortstop and all three outfields.

Stoppers
The reliever market began to move this week with Kendall Graveman’s three-year, $ 24 million signing with the White Sox, according to a source. Aaron Loup signed for two seasons and $ 17 million with the Angels. On Saturday, Hector Neris reached a deal with the Astros (reportedly).

The two main closers available are Raisel Iglesias and Kenley Jansen, although Graveman’s signing with Chicago has raised the chances that the club is interested in trading Craig Kimbrel.
