Pitcher hit on the head thanks in networks

Prospect pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, Tyler Zombro, who underwent major brain surgery after being hit in the head by a line during a Triple-A game on June 3, posted a series of tweets to express his gratitude for the support and love he received during his recovery.

In his posts, Zombro shared photos of his recovery after surgery at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.

Zombro, a 26-year-old reliever at the Rays’ Triple A branch, the Durham Bulls, had spent five days in the intensive care unit and two more in the hospital before being discharged June 9. He remains in Durham with his family and continues with his therapies.

The incident occurred in the eighth inning of a game against the Norfolk Tides in Durham.

Zombro was hit in the face by a line that came off Brett Cumberland’s bat and immediately fell to the ground. His feet seemed to shake as a doctor ran to attend to him. Zombro was removed from the field on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

Zombro has been with the Rays organization since 2017, when he signed as a rookie free agent. He has a 3.18 ERA this season and a 2.79 in his career in the minors.
