LVBP: Navigators win their 10th victory

The Navegantes del Magallanes broke a tie with a four-touchdown attack in the eighth inning to defeat the Anzoátegui Caribes 6-4 on Tuesday, and extend their number of consecutive victories in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League to 10.

The Navegantes are still far from the record for consecutive wins, set by the Caracas Lions when they chained 18 victories in 1988.

Juan Infante hit a two-run home run and Cade Gotta hit a sacrifice fly into the Navigators’ final attack in the eighth. Also on the offense were Pablo Sandoval 3-2 with an RBI, and Alberth Martínez 4-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI.

Arcenio León (1-1) retired the only two batters he faced and benefited from his team’s reaction to win the game. The setback went to the record of Freddy Pacheco (0-1), punished with four touchdowns without being able to take out in his relief.

In Maracay, Deiner López hit a two-run homer, Ramón Cabrera went 2-1 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Denis Phipps pulled her out of the park alone to propel the Aragua Tigers to a win. 7-4 over the Eagles of Zulia.

Ramón García (3-2) covered five innings throwing ball from just one run and five hits to claim victory, while the loss went to Yohan Piño (1-1), after allowing three touchdowns and three hits in five innings.

At La Guaira, Jermaine Palacios went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, Yordanis Linares hit a three-run homer and Ildemaro Vargas added a two-run homer in the Cardenales de Lara’s 9-0 win over Los Angeles. Sharks of La Guaira.

Stephen Jackson (3-1) pitched five scoreless innings of just three hits with five fans to win the game, and Junior Guerra (1-2) lost it, after allowing four runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.

With the results of this day, Navegantes del Magallanes lead the circuit with a score of 18-7, followed by Cardenales de Lara (14-11), Bravos de Margarita (14-11), Tigres de Aragua (13-13), Leones del Caracas (12-13), Tiburones de La Guaira (11-14), Caribes de Anzoátegui (9-15) and Águilas del Zulia (9-16).
