Pitcher Aroldis Chapman has hopes for his 2022 Yankee team and feels that this could be the year to lift the long-awaited 28th title in franchise history.
“This is a strong team right now. We are preparing hard. Do not stop supporting us that this can be the year if God wants. We have the team, we have the faith, the mentality and that is the goal,” he said.
“The Cuban Missile” not only trusts his talent and that of his teammates, but, with a good season, the man from Holguin can get very close to surpassing in several departments those who are by numbers the best left-handed relievers of all time.
Chapman is separated by 41 save games to match Randy Myers, one of the top three left-handed relievers of all time. In terms of strikeouts, Aroldis has already surpassed John Franco and Myers himself and only needs 194 strikeouts to pass Billy Wagner, who many not only agree has been the best left reliever in history, but hundreds think he has merit to be in the Hall of Fame. While 194 strikeouts isn’t something that can happen this season, by 2023 it’s something that looks imminent.
Already at this point, the Yankees’ closer outperforms these three names in several departments, including plenty of modern stats that prove the Cuban’s great quality.
As for this season, Chapman is preparing for what he knows is a very important contest in his career:
“Thank God I feel good and the most important thing is that I am healthy. I’m working hard like always. I am correcting a few things, seeing how the hitters are executing so that one can make his adjustments”.
