Ozuna (2 HR), Braves thrash Nationals

ATLANTA — Marcell Ozuna homered twice, Ozzie Albies drove in three runs and the Atlanta Braves stepped up their offense to blow out the Washington Nationals 16-4 on Tuesday night.

After suffering an 11-2 blowout, the Braves entered the game with a team batting average of .201 before going 19 hits and going 9-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

Ozuna, Austin Riley, Adam Duvall, Dansby Swanson and Orlando Arcia drove in two runs each.

Travis d’Arnaud had three hits and went down hard when he was hit in the left shoulder by a pitch from outfielder Dee Strange Gordon at 52 mph in the eighth inning.

Albies homered on Strange Gordon’s fastball at 59 mph. It was the first appearance of this pitcher in the majors.

Ozuna started the four-run drive in the fourth inning with his first home run of the season. He made it 7-1 with his shot to center field off reliever Austin Voth.

In the fifth act, against the Panamanian Paolo Espino, Ozuna disappeared the ball but through the left field, to increase the score to 11-1. It was the twelfth game in which the Dominican has hit more than one home run, and the first time he has achieved it since September 22, 2020, when he faced Miami.

Bryce Elder (1-0) got the win, while Patrick Corbin (0-2) took the loss.

For the Nationals, the Venezuelans César Hernández 4-1 with a run scored, Keibert Ruiz 4-1 with a run scored. The Dominicans Juan Soto 3-2 with a run scored and an RBI, Maikel Franco 4-2 with an RBI, Víctor Robles 4-0.

For the Braves, the Dominican Ozuna 6-3 with three runs scored and two produced. Cuban Guillermo Heredia 4-1 with three runs scored and one RBI. The Venezuelan Orlando Arcia 4-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
