It has been months since Bryce Young is emerging as the main candidate to become the number one pick in the next draft. The Alabama quarterback shone in the Sugar Bowl with five touchdown passes in a 45-20 win over Kansas State and looked ready to face his journey to the NFL.
Winner of the traditional Heisman trophy in 2021Bryce Young is part of a brilliant generation of quarterbacks that emerged in Alabama, where names like Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts and Mac Jones stand out, all of them starters with the Dolphins, Eagles and Patriots, respectively.
Bryce Young took over the Crimson Tide in 2021, after Jones’ departure to the NFL. The quarterback started all 15 regular season games with a 13-2 record, in which he threw 47 touchdown passes to just seven interceptions for 4,872 yards. That allowed them to advance to the postseason, where they beat Cincinnati in the semifinals with a resounding 27-6, in a game in which Young threw three touchdown passes. Unfortunately for his cause, he failed to crown his great season with the championshipwhen falling in the final duel against Georgia.
The great season in the individual categoryHe allowed Young to be first in voting for the prestigious Heisman Trophy, which honors the best player of the season, a well-deserved award for the quarterback.
During this season, Young had a regression in terms of his numbers, with 27 touchdowns, five interceptions and 3,007 yards in 11 games played.. Alabama couldn’t get into championship contention. During the traditional Sugar Bowl trophy, however, the quarterback showed the best version of him again, just in his last game in college football. Young finished the game with 15 of 21 completions, for a total of 321 yards, five touchdown passes and zero interceptions.
According to various reports, Young is shaping up to be the first quarterback to go out in the next draftahead of the likes of Ohio State’s CJ Stroud and Kentucky’s Will Levis.
