The teams that broke their title drought amid the pandemic

The pandemic of coronavirus in this 2020 and 2021 continues to leave bad memories in the population, especially to all those families who lost a loved one due to Covid-19.

In the sports field, the pandemic caused the suspension of several tournaments, so that the teams that managed to become champions under these circumstances, they celebrated it in a big way and more because curiously, many of them wore several years without being able to lift a trophy.

Here are the teams that broke their title drought in the past two years.

2021

Italy selection

The Italian representative broke his title drought in the tournament of the most important teams in Europe. The ‘Azzurri’ waited 53 years to become the monarchs of European football; the last time they got the title was in 1968.

Argentina Selection

The ‘Albiceleste’ that had Lionel Messi in its ranks ended with 28 years without being able to be crowned in the Copa América. The Portuguese team after 18 years managed to stay with the league title, despite the fact that Porto and Benfica were the teams that dominated the championship in recent years. The last time Sporting emerged as tournament champions was in the 2001/2002 campaign.

Inter de Milan

After Juventus’ reign for nine years in Italian football, Inter managed to win the League of the 2020/2021 season by obtaining more points in the general table. His last title was achieved in 2010, the year in which they also won the Champions League.

Atlético de Madrid

The ‘Colchoneros’ team once again claimed the LaLiga title by beating Real Madrid and Barcelona in points in the 2020-21 season. After seven years, the rojiblancos won their eleventh title, since the last time they won the Spanish tournament was in 2014.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL

The ‘Bucs’ from the hand of Tom Brady got to keep Super Bowl LV, in 2021, by defeating Kansas City. With the win, the Buccaneers broke their 18-year drought without lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The last time they were crowned in the NFL was in 2002 when they defeated the Oakland Raiders in Las Vegas.

Milwaukee Bucks NBA

The champions of the 2020-2021 season in the NBA were the Milwaukee Bucks, after defeating the Phoenix Suns in the Finals. The last time they won the title was in 1971, so they broke their drought of success after 50 years.

MLB Atlanta Braves

The Braves were once again champions of the World Series after 26 years. The Atlanta team led by Jorge Soler, Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson, prevailed in the series against the Houston Astros and were proclaimed MLB monarchs. Their last title they got was in 1995 by defeating the Cleveland Indians.

2020

Liverpool

The ‘Reds’ were proclaimed champions after 30 years without doing so in the Premier League. The 2019-2020 campaign was successful for Liverpool and they surpassed Manchester City in scoring and thus managed to win the title. The last time he won a league was in the 1989-90 season.

MLB Dodgers

The Los Angeles team with the Mexican Julio Urías in its ranks, managed to proclaim itself champion of the 2020 World Series after 32 years. The long-awaited title came by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays. His last major league trophy was in 1988.

NBA Lakers

From the hand of LeBron James, the Lakers won the NBA title after defeating the Miami Heat. With the championship they achieved, the Los Angeles team broke their 10-year drought, since the last time they were proclaimed monarchs was in 2010.
