The Jacksonville Jaguars sign Arden Key to a one-year deal

The defensive lineman is coming off his best season, a 6.5-sack season in his lone season with the 49ers, after three disappointing years with the Raiders.

The team announced the signing on Wednesday, but did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

The biggest defensive problem for the Jaguars is his lack of quality pressure on the opposing quarterback, and adding to Key it’s a solid first step in the process. Key enjoyed his best campaign in 2021 with the San Francisco 49ers (6.5 sacks), playing just 35 percent of defensive snaps. Still, he has just 9.5 sacks in 54 career games, and just three sacks in his first 37 games. Key it does represent an improvement for the Jaguars with respect to K’Lavon Chaissonthe 20th overall pick in the 2020 draft, who has just two sacks in 31 career games, at outside linebacker opposite the star Josh Allen.

The Jaguars they sacked opposing quarterbacks 32 times last season, and only eight teams had fewer. Opposing quarterbacks completed a league-best 64.9 percent of their passes, and the Jaguars intercepted just seven passes. Allen led the Jaguars with 7.5 sacks, and Dawuane Smoot he scored six last year.

The Jaguars have the first overall pick in the next draft of the NFLand the defensive Michigan, Aidan Hutchinsonis one of the players being considered.

After three disappointing campaigns with the raiders, Key he finally broke out last season, his first with the 49ers.

Signed as a free agent after being released by the raiders, Key shone under the defensive line coach of the Niners, Kris Kocurekin 2021.

San Francisco moved to Key all over the defensive line, and found success pressing the passer from the inside. The 6.5 sacks of Key were the second most on the team, behind only Nick Bosawho scored 15.5.

Kandand, at 25, he had 22 tackles, five tackles for loss of yardage and 17 quarterback hits. Originally, he was selected in the third round by the raidersin 2018.
