Guatemala fires Amarini Villatoro after missing out on Gold Cup

The failure of Guatemala in the previous round of the gold Cup, begins to take its toll within its managers and this Thursday, the National Football Federation of Guatemala (FEDEFUT), announced the dismissal of Amarini Villatoro as coach of the Guatemalan senior team, after being eliminated by Guadalupe, in the second preliminary phase of the Concacaf tournament.

Through a statement, FEDEFUT announced the completion of the contract that linked Villatoro with the Guatemalan National Team, after staying just one step away from the group stage of the Gold Cup and being eliminated in a dramatic series of penalties against Guadeloupe by a score of 10 to 9, last Tuesday in the duel played at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale , where the Chapin team consummated their elimination and for the third time they will not be in a Gold Cup.

The Executive Committee of the National Football Federation of Guatemala has made the decision to terminate the contract of Professor Marvin Amarini Villatoro de León, as coach of the senior team in our country and members of its coaching staff, in accordance with the contractual clauses, ”the statement reads in par, in which the Guatemalan federation also thanks and wishes the coach success.

Villatoro, 39, will no longer continue to lead the Guatemalan senior team, after being left out in the first round of the Concacaf World Cup qualifier, heading to Qatar 2022, despite not having conceded a single goal and following their elimination from the group stage of the Gold Cup, in which Guatemala has not participated since the 2015 edition.

Villatoro’s legacy

Amarini Villatoro was appointed as the new coach of the Guatemala national team in March 2019, after becoming two-time local league champion with Guastatoya. During his time in the national team, the young strategist led a total of 23 games, with a favorable balance of 14 wins, 5 draws and just 4 defeats., of which 3 of them were in friendly matches, however their elimination in the World Cup qualifying round and their failure in the previous round of the Gold Cup, caused them to say goodbye to the Central American squad.
