When the Week 5 calendar that began this Thursday with the victory of the Rams over the Seahawks, there is no commitment that generates as much expectation as the rematch of last season’s AFC final between Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.
On Sunday night in primetime, the Bills and Chiefs will land at Arrowhead to meet in a game whose result it could have more far-reaching implications than can be visualized for now.
It is the ninth time in the most recent 10 seasons that the two American Conference Championship participants are re-measured in the following year. More importantly for the narrative of this Sunday Night, is that in eight rematches, the winner traveled five times to the Super Bowl.
Bills vs Chiefs is not just any Sunday.
With the coaches Sean McDermott and Andy Reid Known from his time at the Philadelphia Eagles, the game between Bills and Chiefs represents a challenge more of execution than of planning.

Patrick Mahomes / QB (Chiefs)

No matter how many mistakes he might make, which are actually minimal compared to his talent, Patrick Mahomes is part of the small group of players who bring the most excitement to the NFL. As he has developed in his career, Mahomes leads a handful of statistics. He is the quarterback who threw the most touchdown passes (14) in the first month of the season. Get a touchdown for every 10 passes, the highest percentage in the league. With the ability to extend plays thanks to his legs, Mahomes is the most difficult weapon to contain for the Bills defense and also the main path for Chiefs to achieve victory.
Dawson Knox / TE (Bills)
Under the radar for many opponents, tight end Dawson Knox has become a threat to opposing defenses when the Bills reach the goal zone. So far he has four touchdowns in the most recent three games. and it is already an indispensable piece in Buffalo’s schemes. Last year Knox suffered a calf injury that forced him to miss the season game against Chiefs. Against a defense full of holes and concerned with deep coverage, Dawson Knox becomes an element to place under the microscope.

We all remember Stefon Diggs in the AFC Championship last season when he stayed on the field to watch the Chiefs celebrate. Buffalo wide receiver lHe led the NFL in 2020 with 127 receptions for 1,535 yards and eight touchdown receptions. Clearly Josh Allen’s number one goal. The Kansas City defense enters Sunday’s engagement as the 27th in yards allowed per game. Backed by input from Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley, stopping Diggs will become a challenge for the locals. Diggs can also benefit from the attention Knox now captures from opposing defenses.
Mike Danna / DE (Chiefs)
With absences in the defensive back, Kansas City will need its defensive end Mike Danna maintained the level of his last two games when he reaped three sacks. Pushing Josh Allen will become a number one goal for the Chiefs or else they will submit to the powerful arm of the Buffalo quarterback. For now, the Bills line has only allowed five sacks so Danna becomes a player who will mark the beats on Sunday

Josh Allen’s start-up this season was as slow as an old bulb TV. The quarterback who last year surprised with his improvement in completion percentage looked for the first two weeks, like the same imprecise rookie we met three years ago. But Allen has been improving over the course of the season. He leads the NFL’s 12th passing offense with 258.8 yards per game. The Bills franchise quarterback has completed 99 of 157 passes attempted for a gain of 1,055 yards and nine touchdowns with two interceptions. In each of the three victories, Buffalo has scored above 35 points. Allen will be a double concern for the Chiefs defense thanks to his status as a mobile quarterback. He has 129 yards, the third-most on the team behind just running backs Devin Singletary (259) and Zack Moss (147).
In a hypothetical points game, Allen will be vital in keeping the Bills in the shootout.
