Scherzer is dealing with arm fatigue

ATLANTA – Max Scherzer confessed that he felt his arm ‘dead’ during his opening Sunday in Game 2 of the SCLN and that as a result he could not do but 79 pitches and complete 4.1 innings in what ended up being a win for the Braves, who took a 2-0 lead in the series.

However, the Dodgers ace doesn’t think there will be any long-term effects. You have dealt with arm fatigue in the past and believe that right now you just need rest.

“What I’m dealing with right now is just that my arm is dead,” Scherzer said. “It’s not like I’m dealing with tendons or ligaments. No, he wasn’t pitching serious stuff. My arm was just tired. I went out and threw everything I could ”.

That makes Scherzer unlikely to start on fewer days off than normal in Game 5. Barring an emergency, he probably won’t be available in the bullpen either. Scherzer’s next outing wouldn’t be until Game 6, which could force the Dodgers to go with another bullpen day in Game 5.

With two days off around the three games in Los Angeles, Scherzer would get an extra day off his usual four. But there are also no guarantees the Dodgers will make it to Game 5 in the first place.

Scherzer said he realized his arm was “dead” as soon as he started warming up in the bullpen. “I realized that he was still tired. Usually in those situations, once you get past pitch 45, sometimes the arm relaxes and you can go further in the game. But after the third inning, nothing came loose. It was squeezing me more. So I knew my pitching count was going to be limited. “

According to Scherzer himself, his arm problem is the result of a heavy and unfamiliar workload over the past two weeks. He has pitched four times in 12 days since the postseason began. Scherzer threw 110 pitches in Game 3 of the SDLN six days ago. He then threw 13 pitches under extraordinary pressure to close out the series against the Giants four days ago, finally taking the ball Sunday at Truist Park.
