Red Sox: JD Martínez was not nominated for the Silver Bat and sparks controversy

The nominees of MLB the prize for the Silver Bat have already been announced and how in all the awards, there have been controversies over the elections of some of those who have come out as finalists, mainly on two New York Yankees hitters in Gary Sanchez and Joey Gallo, who both had poor seasons with the tree and even, in the case of Gallo, was put out of position in the category as a designated hitter when he played most of his games as an outfielder.

Among the nominees for the Silver Bat as designated are Shohei Ohtani, Yordan Álvarez, Nelson Cruz, Giancarlo Stanton and Joey Gallo himself, noting the serious omission of Boston Red Sox slugger JD Martínez, who in recent years has consolidated as one of the best hitters in all of the Major Leagues and even in 2021, he had better numbers than some of the nominees.

Martínez had a batting line of .286 / .349 / .518 with 28 homers and 99 RBIs, which although they are fewer homers than those connected by all the nominees for the award, has a better average than all of them and only less RBIs than Yordan Álvarez and Shohei Ohtani, who reached one hundred, as well as being the leader in hits among all the American League nominees.

The inclusion of Gallo is the most controversial, since he played only 14 games in that position throughout the season, while Julio Daniel took to the field as DH on 113 occasions this year, being to some extent inconsistent that he has been voted for Gallo and not for JD to be a finalist for the Silver Bat award in the designated position.

The award is voted on by the coaches and managers of all Major League teams, being able to choose any player except from their own teams, so it will be necessary to see what rubrics they considered to exclude JD Martínez from a nomination in a position that if covered for a player who might have his merits but not as a designated hitter.

I started as a rookie on Al Bat in early 2018 and I am going into my third season covering Major League Baseball as a web reporter. I am a fan of the San Francisco Giants, a number one defender of Barry Bonds and a critic of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto and Ronald Acuña are the future of baseball, Mike Trout is overrated, and the Astros deserved to be taken away from the World Series for cheating. Besides baseball, I also enjoy soccer, football, basketball, and just about any other game that includes a ball or a ball. I am also an amateur musician, penniless gamer and very nerdy. Graduated in journalism from the University of Guadalajara, I graduated in 2017. Born in the shrimp capital of the world, Escuinapa, Sinaloa.
