Prospect Team of the Week

The MLB Pipeline Prospects Team of the Week highlights the best performances of the previous seven days. Any minor league player who is currently on an organization’s Top 30 Prospects list is eligible for our Prospect Ranking.

We saw the Week 5 Prospect Team with such good eyes that we decided to bring back three members of that group for the ninth of this time, in which we covered the period between June 21 and June 27.

C: Korey Lee, Corpus Christi Hooks (Double-A)
(Astros # 5)
.409 / .500 / 1.045, 6 JJ, 22 BV, 6 C, 9 H, 1 3B, 4 HR, 8 CI, 4 BB, 3 K

Lee has gotten off to a good start in Double-A since being promoted on June 15, with hits in every game except one at Corpus Christi and a .333 / .400 / .778 line. He has six home runs and 14. Rushed races in 12 games at your new level.

.481 / .517 / .778, 6 JJ, 27 BV, 4 C, 13 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 CI, 2 BB, 5 K

Normally, when you start the week with a four-hitter, like the Puerto Rican Miranda did on June 22, that’s the best day of the week. But Miranda also had a five-hit performance Thursday and two of two hits or more over the weekend. It’s been a productive June (.370 / .427 / .610) for the infielder, who is now hitting .345 / .408 / .588 with 13 homers this year, tied for the top of that last category in Double-A Center.

2B: Nick Allen, Midland RockHounds (Double-A)
(No. 3 of Athletics)
.480 / .500 / .800, 6 JJ, 25 BV, 5 C, 12 H, 1 3B, 2 HR, 4 CI, 1 BB, 2 K, 2 BR, 1 OR

After a week in which he had five games with two hits or more and in which he led his string of hits to 13, he is now hitting .385 / .407 / .577 in June and .333 / .383 / .483 In the season.

3B: Mark Vientos, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Double-A)
(Mets # 8)
.400 / .500 / 1,200, 5 JJ, 20 BV, 7 C, 8 H, 1 2B, 5 HR, 10 CI, 2 BB, 3 K

He hit hits in which five games he played and homered in four of them, including two on Thursday. That gives him nine homers in June and 12 all season.

SS: Anthony Volpe, Tampa Tarpons (Class A Low)
(Yankees No. 11)
.389 / .542 / .833, 5 JJ, 18 BV, 8 C, 7 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 CI, 4 BB, 6 K, 3 BR

Volpe appears for the second time in four weeks on the Prospects Team of the Week thanks in large part to going 9-5 with three extra-base hits in his last two games. Now he’s hitting .310 / .439 / .620 on the season.

OF: Cody Thomas, Las Vegas Aviators (Triple-A)
(No. 22 of Athletics)
308 / .357 / .962, 6 JJ, 26 BV, 8 C, 8 H, 1 3B, 5 HR, 10 CI, 2 BB, 10 K

Thomas bounced it three times in his first two games of the week. He added another homer on Friday and another on Sunday. He’s now 11 in June and 13 on the season after a slow start in May.

OF: Micker Adolfo, Birmingham Barons (Double-A)
(White Sox No. 6)
.333 / .462 / .952, 6 JJ, 21 BV, 6 C, 7 H, 1 2B, 4 HR, 8 CI, 5 BB, 6 K

Adolfo started the week on the 22nd with a two-homer game and then hit another on Wednesday and closed with a grand slam on Sunday. He is tied for the Double-A South lead with 12 homers and is second in slugging (.531) and fourth in OPS.

OF: Jarred Kelenic, Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A)
(No. 1 Mariners No. 1 / No. 4 MLB)
.333 / .467 / .750, 6 JJ, 24 BV, 9 C, 8 H, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 8 CI, 5 BB, 3 K, 2 BR

Much of Kelenic’s production was in two days: Two home runs on Thursday and four hits on Friday, with only the home run remaining to complete the cycle that day. He now has five homers and four stolen bases in 16 games in June since being dropped to Triple-A.

LZ: Sam Weatherly, Fresno Grizzlies (Class A Low)
(Rockies # 16)

(No. 12 of Pirates)
1-0, EFE of 0.00, 1 G, 6 IP, 1 H, 2 C, 0 CL, 0 BB, 9 K, WHIP of 0.17

After a difficult start in May, Yean appears to be finding his way as he is used as the first long reliever. His relief job this week was a six-inning performance in which he allowed a hit, walked without and struck out nine. Have a relationship
