MLB: Yankees Lose The Remainder Of The Tournament To A Reliever Who Had Just Recovered From A Tommy John

The Yankees 34-year veteran reliever, Zack Brittonwas placed in the 60 day disabled list. In this way, the rest of the tournament will be lostincluding playoffs. His place was taken by right-hander Jacob Barnes, who signed a minor league contract and was immediately added to the active roster.

It’s a crushing blow for Britton, who came off his start Friday (left shoulder fatigue) after facing two batters with the injury. Britton made his season debut on September 24 after recovering from tommy john surgery which he underwent last September. The Yankees hoped he could work his way up the postseason roster, but this latest arm problem for him will end his season.

Barnes is a 32-year veteran reliever with a 4.73 ERA in a seven-year career that included stops with the Brewers, Royals, Angels, Mets, Blue Jays and Tigers. He posted a 6.10 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings for Detroit this year.
