MLB: Painful victory? Pirates Walk Off with Ke’Bryan Hayes colliding at home plate; ends up on the ground

Nobody really knew what to do. Michael Chavis had just delivered a Wak-Off hit in the bottom of the tenth inning, capping off a fantastic three-inning stretch in which he hit the game-tying home run in the eighth inning and kept the score tied in the tenth with a great defensive play.

The PNC Park crowd, which watched the Pittsburgh Pirates losing a four-run lead only to emerge victorious by a score of 8-7, began to flare up. but lying down Face down at home plate was Ke’Bryan Hayes; he scored the winning run, but left-shouldered catcher Willson Contreras to do it:

The whole scene was completely strange. Fireworks went off in the background as the trainers evaluated Hayes. Under normal circumstances, Chavis would have been harassed by his teammates.

He would have probably been doused with a sports drink during his television interview. On Thursday night, he received some bittersweet greetings. There was simultaneously every reason and no reason to celebrate

Hayes was able to leave the field under his own power after the play, but his status has yet to be determined. Manager Derek Shelton said after the game that Hayes was being tested, but he seemed to be in a better place than he was right after the collision. When asked about Contreras’ positioning, Shelton said he didn’t think there was malice on the backstop’s part.

While Hayes’s header slide to home plate ended up winning the game, Shelton said he would prefer his players take the safer approach. “If I’m going to vote, I’m going to vote that he doesn’t slide headfirst into home plate,” Shelton said.

Even amid the awkwardness and uncertainty, the Pirates got a victory they could celebrate to cap off a winning stay at home, a victory that didn’t initially seem necessary for drama:

I am a fan of the King of Sports, especially the Boston Red Sox in MLB and all Mexican baseball in general. This profession has given me the opportunity to cover major events such as the Caribbean Series, LMB All Star, LMP (uninterruptedly since 2009), signatures of important players. I had the chance to attend the 2013 World Classic in Arizona, USA, although as a fan. Apart from this beautiful sport, I love basketball, where I have also narrated games and even an NBA friendly 10 years ago, but I have baseball in my veins. Degree in Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) , from which I graduated in 2011. I was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa and started in the world of sports journalism in 2004 in the newspaper El Sol de Mazatlán, where I was a baseball columnist and a reporter at the same time. In January 2009 I arrived at El Debate as a journalist reporter and it was almost six years (in the first stage), until in November 2014 I emigrated to the radio providing my services at Línea Directa-Grupo RSN. My cycle there ended in July 2019 and a few days later, El Debate gave me another opportunity to work and opened the doors for me again. That is how I came to Al Bat, where I have been since 2019 as a web journalist.
