In recent days, details have begun to emerge about who would fill out the Showalter staff, with Wayne Kirby, Joey Cora and Eric Chavez reportedly lined up to be first base coach, third base coach and hitting coach, respectively.

One position that has yet to be filled is that of bench coach, but a name that apparently can be crossed off the list of contenders is Ryan Flaherty. The San Diego Padres they have denied the Mets’ request to interview their quality assurance coach for the position.
