Marquez rolls 8 great acts, Rockies win

SEATTLE – Trevor Story hit two home runs, Germán Marquez maintained the perfect game until the sixth inning and the Colorado Rockies defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-2 on Wednesday night for just their sixth road win of the season.

Story hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and a two-run dash in the eighth. Brendan Rodgers also hit a two-run homer that was more than enough offensive support for Marquez, for whom Taylor Trammell broke perfection with his solo homers.

Marquez has had several dominant performances in the past five weeks, conceding one earned run or less in seven of his last nine starts. His only sins in that span were two appearances against Cincinnati, in which he allowed a total of 12 earned runs and 20 hits.

Marquez (6-6) gave up just two runners in eight innings against Seattle and struck out seven enemies. His stayed perfect for 5 2/3 innings, combining his repertoire of fastballs, sliders and corners to induce loose contacts.

Trammell broke the perfection by dropping a first-pitch slider over the right-field fence.

Kyle Seager had an RBI single to infield after JP Crawford’s double in the ninth. Seattle had the potential tying run at the plate, but Daniel Bard struck out Jake Bauers for his 10th save.

The Mariners had a five-game winning streak snapped, but ended their tenure with a 7-2 record.

Seattle starter Justus Sheffield (5-7) continued his irregular season. He missed five innings of work for the second time in three starts and was punished by the Rockies despite conceding just four hits.

For the Rockies, Venezuelans Yonathan Daza 3-1 with a run scored; Elías Díaz 4-0. The Dominican Raimel Tapia 4-0.

For the Mariners, the Venezuelan Luis Torrens 3-0.
