LVBP: Lions win 1st duel with Sharks

Margarita’s Braves scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning, two of them thanks to walks with the bases loaded, to defeat the Tigres de Aragua 12-10 and stay on top of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Margarita trailed by two runs going into the ninth inning, when she put together an explosive five-score attack that featured a two-run RBI triple by José Martínez. However, the Tigers responded with a three-touchdown attack in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings.

In the 10th, Ramón Flores drove in one run with a single, while Breyvic Valera and José Martínez walked bases loaded to drive in the remaining two.

Kender Villegas won (1-1) with one inning and a third of a run. Osmer Morales lost (0-2), shaken with three runs in just two-thirds of an inning.

In Caracas, an eight-touchdown attack in the fourth inning resulted in the Lions’ 11-9 victory over the La Guaira Sharks.

César Valera was 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs, while Erick Castillo knocked her out of the park with the bases loaded to drive in four touchdowns.

Andrés Pérez (1-1) retired the only batter he faced and benefited and won the game. It was lost by Eudis Logo (0-2), punished with four touchdowns and three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

At Maracaibo, Juan Infante hit a two-run homer and Cade Gotta added an RBI single of one more, in support of a good start by Wikelman Ramirez. The Navegantes del Magallanes defeated the Águilas del Zulia 4-2.

Ramirez (1-0) completed five innings throwing one-run ball and two hits to win the game. Braulio Torres-Pérez (0-2) fell, after allowing two runs and four hits in four and two-thirds innings.

In La Guaira, the Lara Cardinals attacked with four touchdowns in the third inning with a two-run homer from Gorkys Hernández and a loner from Carlos Rivero; to prevail 4-3 on the Caribes de Anzoátegui.

The Braves lead the circuit with a 9-4 record, followed by Cardinals (8-4), Lions (7-5), Navigators (6-5), Sharks (6-6), Caribs (5-6), Eagles (4-9) and Tigres (3-9).
