ESPN’s Olney ranked Rooster ranked fourth among the 10 best left fielders in the majors and explained that he would benefit from facing fewer pressure situations, with runners on base. Gallo hit .162 with runners on base in 2021 and his average improved to .240 when he led off the innings.
“The Yankees should consider putting him in the leadoff spot and encourage him to do what he does best, which is get on base. By putting him in the No. 1 spot, or one of the bottom three spots, Aaron Boone could rescue him from having to hit with runners in scoring position early in games,” Olney said.
Team owners and the players’ union resumed negotiations Thursday, in their first meeting since the lockout began in December.
The union left unhappy after receiving the league’s financial proposal, according to a report by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The meeting lasted about an hour and no further sessions are scheduled at this time, although the union plans to make a counter offer at some point in the near future.
MLB’s proposal included ideas aimed at curbing service time manipulation, discussed awarding draft picks to teams that don’t manipulate the service time of top-ranked prospects, and modified its initial proposal for a draft lottery.
News at ESPN: The details of MLB’s proposal today to the locked-out players — and why pitchers and catchers reporting by mid-February gets less likely by the day.

Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez must improve his offensive performance if he wants to stay on the team after 2022.
His manager, Alex Cora, knows well what he has to work on. The Puerto Rican needs to focus more on hitting line drives than hitting home runs.
“When you start chasing power, sometimes you hit a lot of fly balls,” Cora said of Vazquez during the 2021 season. “When Christian is doing well, he hits lines all over the place and sometimes he throws the ball out of the ballpark.”
