DH candidates if there is a designated hitter in the National League in 2022

Although there are currently unemployment and all kinds of negotiations in the Major League Baseball – MLB They are detained, it seems that for the season 2022 there will be universal designated hitter and these would be the candidate players for those teams of the National League.

Most likely the universal designated hitter will have it in 2022 and according to a report by Mike Axis of CBS Sports, the National League teams could already have their candidate for that position, which we have only seen when they visit the American League field and in the 2020 season that was shortened to 60 games by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When the two parties reach an agreement, it is expected that the new collective agreement will make the universal DH permanent, so in the old circuit we would soon be seeing a designated hitter.

Candidates per team

  • Marcell Ozuna or Jorge Sole if he ends up staying in this organization – Atlanta Braves
  • Harold Ramirez, – Chicago Cubs
  • Gavin Lux – Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Robinson Canó JD Davis. Jeff McNeil or Dominic Smith – New York Mets
  • Wil Myers – San Diego Padres
  • Albert Pujols – St. Louis Cardinals

Other names that could stand out are Jesse Winker in the CIncinnati Reds and Wilmer Flores in the San Francisco Giants, we just have to wait for the negotiations to be reactivated and that this is part of the new agreement for the 2022 MLB season.

Once that happens, the 15 National League teams will have to adjust their rosters and determine exactly who they will fill that new position with. Some, like those already mentioned, already have a player (or players) who could fill the designated position.
