The Chicago Cubs were one of the big sellers in the last MLB trade final date, where they got rid of their golden infield in Kris Bryant, Javier Báez and Anthony Rizzo, In addition to star closer and World Series champion Craig Kimbrel, who did not change cities by going to the White Sox, perhaps being a missing piece in the bullpen heading into the postseason.
One of his former Cubs teammates, Ian Happ, was quite impressed with the level that Kimbrel has shown throughout his career and that he was able to witness in two and a half seasons at Wrigley Field, and according to the podcast “The Compound”, when he retires he thinks Kimbrel will be remembered as the best closer in MLB history, even above Panamanian Mariano Rivera.
Kimbrel is the best at doing it. When he finishes his career he will go down in history as the best. I know that Mariano in his total career is much better, he has 13 All-Stars, World Series and MVP, 5 times Reliever of the Year. Mariano’s accumulated is better, but what I’m saying is that if Craig continues on this path in his career, being dominant year after year, he could end up being the best reliever in history.
Without a doubt, Kimbrel in his 12-year career has undoubtedly been the best closer and reliever of the last decade, accumulating awards and championships, as well as being dominant everywhere, and although he has just under 300 saves to reach the top Mariano Rivera, he is still young and as Happ says, he has everything to reach the Panamanian.
