The Denver Broncos have fired Vic Fangio

The Denver Broncos announced Sunday morning (January 9) that they were parting ways with HC Vic Fangio. The decision to fire Fangio was not easy for general manager George Paton, who likes and respects the former head coach. But a change became necessary after the Broncos finished in the bottom 10 in scoring in each of the past three seasons.

There are no confirmed head coach interviews at this time. In a statement issued by Broncos CEO Joe Ellis, he said: “George [Paton] he will have full authority to select the next Broncos head coach. Jacksonville Jaguars to seek to replace Urban Meyer

The Jaguars decided to move from Urban Meyer just 13 games into his shaky tenure in Jacksonville. Now, they are in the market for a new head coach and as the second team with an NFL head coach vacancy, they have wasted little time trying to find the next person to lead their team.

Latest rumors from the Jaguars head coach

On the December 30 episode of PFN Weekly, PFN NFL Insider member Tony Pauline reported that the Jaguars are likely looking for a veteran head coach like Doug Pederson or Jim Caldwell. He also added that the Jaguars are considering Vic Fangio as DC if the Broncos fire him, and would pair their head coach with him. Additionally, Pauline reported that general manager Trent Baalke is expected to stay with the team and be part of the Jaguars head coach search.

Las Vegas Raiders need to replace Jon Gruden

Jon Gruden renews as head coach of Las Vegas Raiders on October 11 after a scandal related to previous emails he had sent. That put the Raiders as the first team of the 2021 season with an NFL head coach vacancy. Currently, the Raiders have not confirmed their intention to interview anyone. The Raiders continue to hunt for the playoffs under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.

Jim Harbaugh, of course, is the wild card. The coordinated leaks that Michigan’s current head coach is interested in a return to the NFL surely came from Harbaugh’s field. Were they serious or a game of leverage to get more money? The Raiders would make a lot of sense if Harbaugh really wants to make a move.

In a January 8 update, Pauline noted: “Jim Harbaugh to the Las Vegas Raiders is more than just a wild rumor. Sources tell me that the Raiders are Harbaugh’s franchise choice, and some believe it could happen next week if the Raiders don’t make the playoffs. Multiple sources tell Pauline that the Chicago Bears will also push for Harbaugh, but the Michigan coach has his heart set on Silver and Black.

“Amid all the rumors and speculation about Harbaugh in recent days, this seems to be the truest of all – he’s really looking forward to getting back to the NFL.”

Miami Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores

In a somewhat surprising move, the Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores. According to Jeff Darlington’s report, the relationship between Flores, Tua Tagovailoa and Chris Grier had deteriorated. The Dolphins kept Grier in his place and will now embark on a search for a new head coach.

The Dolphins have no confirmed head coach interviews at this time.

Latest rumors from the Dolphins head coach

Initial thoughts were that Jim Harbaugh might be in line for the Dolphins job, but Jeff Darlington reported that the Dolphins are not targeting Harbaugh.

Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman are out of the Minnesota Vikings

After missing the playoffs once again, the Vikings unsurprisingly decided a trade was required. When the team added Kirk Cousins, they felt they were just one QB away from going all the way. However, it has not developed that way. Now with one year left in cousin contract, the team seems to be starting over.

Which head coaches could still be on the bench in 2022?

Currently, only two head coaches have been fired. However, with the end of the regular season approaching, more NFL head coach vacancies could soon appear. Let’s take a look at what other head coaches might be dating.

Matt Rhule, Carolina Panthers

According to Paulina, Matt Rhule looks ready for the Panthers to give him one more year. However, he will be under great pressure, and changes to his coaching staff could well happen this offseason.

David Culley, Houston Texans

One of the more surprising possible outings could be freshman head coach David Culley. Paulina reported that Culley could be replaced by Josh McDaniels. The Patriots OC has a history with Jack Easterby and Nick Caserio from their time in New England.

The key for McDaniels could be his belief in the future of Mac Jones and the potential of Davis Mills. Those two rookies could determine whether he stays in New England or makes the jump to Houston.

Ahead of Week 17, Ian Rapoport reported that Culley has impressed in recent weeks. As it stands, Rapoport’s understanding is that Culley will stick around after a good season finale.

However, heading into week 18, Rapoport reported that Texans «evaluate your entire soccer operation, including head coach David Culley’s future, in the coming days“. The report claims that there has been frustration with in-game decisions among players. There have also been discipline issues that Culley will need to address. At best, it looks like there will be changes in your staff.

Pete Carroll, Seattle Seahawks

Speculation about the future of Seattle has been mounting. According to a report leading up to Week 18 by Mike Garafolo, there are little clarity about the situation surrounding Pete Carroll. Carroll has about $ 50 million left on his contract and will meet with team president Jody Allen this week. That’s not an indication that change is coming, but it does suggest that any decision will not be imminent.
