THEFT WITHOUT MERCY: MLB left out José Adolis García and IS NOT A FINALIST

By Juan Páez

This Monday, the finalists for the Rookie of the Year award in the American League were announced and, although Randy Arozarena is among the three candidates for the award, José Adolis García was not among the three newcomers of the young circuit despite having a season of more of 30 homers and 90 RBIs. Injustice? Safely.

The merits of Adolis were more than enough. In 149 games with the Texas Rangers, the Cuban outfielder dropped 141 hits, with 26 doubles, two triples and 31 we were back full. Those numbers accompanied them with 90 RBIs, 77 runs scored, 16 stolen bases in 21 attempts, 32 walks, 194 strikeouts and a .243 / .286 / .454 offensive line, with an OPS of .741.

All of this balanced it with a great defense in the Texas outfield. Partly because of his ability with the glove and arm, his record in Victories Over Replacement was 3.8, even higher than that of Wander Franco (3.5), the other on the list along with Luis Garcia (Houston Astros).

Adolis, who went to the All-Star Game, broke the record for most home runs by a Rangers rookie and, barring his strikeouts, exhibited star skills on many occasions.

What perhaps affected the Antillean was his slump in the second half of the season. After removing 22 balls from the park, totaling 62 manufactured and showing a line of .270 / .312 / .527 (.840 OPS), Garcia had frequencies of .211 / .256 / .370 in his last 69 games played in the regular round of 2021.

Although the Astros’ Garcia and Arozarena have enough merits to qualify for the award, the absence of Adolis and the presence of Franco, someone who only participated in 70 games with the Tampa Bay Rays, seems a clear injustice.

Unfortunately, to Jose Adolis It will be enough for him to have been the most dangerous hitter in the Rangers throughout all of 2021 and to be one of the most pleasant surprises in terms of individual performances in the just finished campaign.

The winner of the Rookie of the Year award It will be released on Monday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. (Eastern time).
